Honda Civic Tourer

Honda Yuasa Racing has revealed its 2014 BTCC contender in the form of a Civic Tourer.

What we have here is the first estate car to be used in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) since Tom Walkinshaw Racing used a couple of Volvo 850s in the 1994 season. Belonging to Honda Yuasa Racing, it will be the only estate car on the 2014 grid.

Under the hood of the BTCC-spec Civic Tourer will be a newly developed 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo engine built by Neil Brown. The motor is estimated to produce more than 300 HP (221 kW), while a more docile version is expected in the highly anticipated Civic Type R due in 2015 already confirmed with at least 280 HP (206 kW).

 

 

The diesel-powered version begins at 21,375 GBP and makes use of a new 1.6-liter DTEC engine producing 120 HP (88 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). In this configuration the Civic Tourer will do 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 10.1 seconds while achieving 74.3 mpg UK (61.8 mpg US or 3.8 liters / 100 km) and 99 g/km of CO2. With a full tank of gas, the Civic Tourer diesel will provide a range of approximately 817 miles (1,315 km).

It won't be the only Civic on next year's BTCC grid as Eurotech Racing plans on using the hatchback variant that was developed for the 2012 season and managed to grab the last two drives' titles for Gordon Shedden and Andrew Jordan.

Next year's BTCC season will start on March 30 at Brands Hatch when Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal will race this Honda Civic Tourer.

Volkswagen Twin-Up diesel-electric hybrid concept revealed

Volkswagen is presenting at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show the twin up! concept which adopts the powertrain from the XL1.

The twin up! concept has borrowed the diesel engine, electric motor and DSG from the XL1 which allowed it to become the most economical four-seat vehicle in Europe, managing to return 214 mpg US (257 mpg UK or 1.1 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of just 27 g/km in the New European Driving Cycle.

Power comes from the same two-cylinder 800cc common-rail diesel engine from the XL1 installed transversally in the engine bay. The motor produces 47 bhp (35 kW) and 88 lb-ft (119 Nm) of torque and works together with an electric motor developing 47 bhp (20 bhp more than in the XL1) and 103 lb-ft (139 Nm). As a result of the hardware arrangement, the Twin-Up has a combined power of 74 bhp (55 kW) and 158 lb-ft (214 Nm) sent to the front axle through a dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox.

There's also an 8.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack installed behind the rear seats and under the trunk where Volkswagen has also put the 12-volt battery for the electrical system and an 8.7-gallon fuel tank.

When running solely on electric power the twin up! can reach 37 mph (59.5 km/h) in 8.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 78 mph. In hybrid mode it will perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) task in 15.7 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h). Volkswagen mentions the 2,657 lbs (1,205 kg) concept can be driven on electric power for up to 31 miles (50 km).

For the first time ever in a Volkswagen model the climate functions are being displayed only in digital form thanks to an AMOLED display which allows the driver to control temperature through a central touchscreen. Also digital are the status display and user control, while the home screen can be customized according to the driver's preferences.

Lexus RC 2014 officially revealed

Just like Lexus promised at the beginning of the month, the all-new 2014 RC Coupe has been introduced today at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Lexus' styling department looked over some photos of the LF-LC and LF-CC concepts when they designed the new RC which looks extremely sharp and fresh with its contoured shape and the wide spindle grille. It comes with triangular LED headlights and has received standard 18-inch five-spoke alloys or optional 19-inch ten-spoke rims.

 

The interior cabin is inspired by Lexus' recent concepts and comes with the firm's first ever lightning package with illumination reflecting upwards instead of downwards. The upper area of the dashboard incorporates the instrument panel and a seven-inch navigation display while the layered center console comes with a built-in Remote Touch Interface, a novelty in a Lexus model.

A range-topping RC F is already on the way taking into account Lexus has trademarked the "RC F" moniker. Under its hood there will probably be a V8 5.0-liter engine rated at around 455 bhp (339 kW) and 543 Nm (401 lb-ft) of torque. The car will allegedly be showcased in January at 2014 NAIAS in Detroit

The physical dimensions of the all-new Lexus RC stand at 4639mm length, 1838m width and 1394mm height, with a wheelbase stretching at 2730mm. The car has enough interior room to accommodate four people staying on newly developed seats that have an integrated construction method providing improved support and comfort.

2015 Nissan Murano

The third generation of the Nissan Murano has been spied for the first time ahead of what will probably turn out to be a 2015 market launch.

A heavily camouflaged prototype was spotted on public streets and our spies were able to snap a pic of the interior as well. Due to the heavy amount of camo we can't say a lot about the exterior design but we remind you more than a year ago Nissan's vice-president Shiro Nakamura said the styling of the new model will be "very different" compared to the current generation.

Chances are the 2015 Nissan Murano will adopt some of the styling cues seen in the TeRRA concept shown more than a year ago at the Paris Motor Show which unfortunately wasn't a very good design from Nissan. Another logical way would be to come up with an oversized X-Trail

Fourth-gen Honda City revealed in India

Honda has introduced the fourth generation of the Japan-developed City in New Delhi, India.

The new fourth generation Honda City has just been unveiled by Honda. It will come in both petrol and diesel-engined variants. The official launch of the car will take place only in January 2014, and prices will be announced then. The new Honda City has been one of Honda’s best-kept secrets, with very little details of the car trickling out, leading to a whole lot of speculation.

The mid-size sedan was created at Honda's R&D center in Tochigi, Japan and represents the firm's first model to implement the new "EXCITING H DESIGN!!!" styling language. The vehicle has the same 4400mm length and 1695mm width as the previous generation, but its height has increased by 10mm to 1495mm while the wheelbase has been stretched by 50mm to 2600mm.

Power will come from a 4-cylinder, 1.5-liter DOHC i-DTEC diesel engine created exclusively for the Indian market which uses the latest Earth Dreams Technology. There will also be an upgraded 4-cylinder, 1.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine promising to bring a better balance between performance and fuel economy.

On the interiors, the cockpit gets a layered, floating effect. It comes with a touch screen music system, and analogue gauges in the instrument panel with blue backlighting. The combination meter shows fuel efficiency, temperature and trip meters. It also sports rear AC vents. It has a key-less entry, push-button ignition, touch-screen climate control panel and a sun-roof.

The rear has a low floor, which makes it decently comfortable for a fifth passenger as well. It will have Bluetooth, reverse camera and sensors, and handsfree phone system. It has eight speakers for the audio system. There are a total of four power outlets in the car.

Already available on order, the new Honda City will go on sale in January 2014 in India and will be followed by 60 other markets.

Set to be introduced sometime next year, the redesigned model has a lot riding on it so it will likely have an evolutionary design like the rendering. This belief is echoed by previous spy photos which have shown the car will keep its distinctive wedge shape.

Toyota has been tight-lipped about the 2015 Prius but the company has already confirmed it will be "the first [model] to introduce a substantially improved family of hybrid powertrains” that deliver "significantly improved fuel economy in a more compact package that is lighter in weight and lower in cost."

The company also confirmed the model will ride on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and have improved aerodynamics as well as a more accommodating cabin with "significant refinements in design, layout and ease of operation."

Nissan's Golf competitor spied for the first time

The 2014 Nissan Almera has been snapped by our spy photographers.

Set to battle the Volkswagen Golf, the prototype is heavily camouflaged but will reportedly draw inspiration from the Invitation concept that debuted at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The details are hard to make out but Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer has previously said the car will have an "edgy" front fascia that incorporates a V-shaped grille and is a "little bit left-field."

Our spies couldn't get close enough to snap interior photos but Nissan has said the model will have a perceived quality that matches the Golf. Previous reports have also indicated it could have a full-length panoramic sunroof, a self-parking system and an affordable navigation system.

Engine options remain unconfirmed but speculation suggests there could be a variety of 1.2- and 1.5-liter units sourced from Renault and Nissan.

Nissan has promised to fully rival the seventh-gen Golf "from BlueMotion to GTI" at a competitive sticker price. The economical version will have a diesel engine capable of matching the Golf BM's 73.5 mpg US (88.3 mpg UK or 3.2 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of 85 g/km. Nissan's response to the Golf GTI will be a Nismo-flavored version of the new Tiida/Almera.

The model will reportedly be introduced sometime next year so expect to learn more in the coming months

2015 Mazda MX-5 / Alfa Romeo Spider mule spied for the first time

Our spies have already caught the 2015 Mazda MX-5 on multiple occasions but new details are starting to emerge about the upcoming roadster.

Mazda's Kiyoshi Fujiwara revealed the next-generation MX-5 will be significantly lighter than its predecessor. Fujiwara declined to go into specifics but the magazine says the car will weigh approximately one tonne (2204 lbs). This will be achieved by utilizing a new lightweight structure which should give the model a better power-to-weight ratio.

In related news, Mazda is hard at work developing the next-generation of Skyactiv engines. Engineers are reportedly trying to make them more efficient than hybrid engines so they could adopt a homogeneous charge compression ignition system which could improve fuel efficiency by up to 30 percent. If everything pans out, the new engines could be introduced in 2018.

Engine options remain a mystery, but the companies have previously said the "Mazda and Alfa Romeo variants will each be powered by specific proprietary engines unique to each brand." Early speculation suggests the Mazda will use either a 1.3- or 1.6-liter SkyActiv engine, while the Alfa could have a 1.4-liter MultiAir engine with at least 120 HP (89 kW).

The Mazda MX-5 is expected to be launched in 2015 and the Alfa Romeo Spider - which could be called the 2C - is slated to follow shortly thereafter.

2014 Toyota Yaris Facelift spied

The folks over at Toyota are preparing a cosmetic update for the Yaris subcompact car and our spies where on hand to catch a few shots as a prototype headed out for a road test.

At first glance, the model could be mistaken for a new generation, due to the heavy disguise t is wearing, but it does suggest they are preparing extensive updates ready for next year.

Changes will include an all new front fascia featuring redesigned headlights and foglights while the rear lights and rear bumper look different as well.

The cabin is also set to receive some fine tuning from the Toyota surgeons.

Expect to see the 2014 Toyota Yaris facelift debut at the Geneva Motor Show next year with sales to begin shortly after.

Daihatsu has introduced the Kopen concept at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan.

Several hours ago Honda showed us the S660 concept which serves as a preview for a kei-car destined for Japan in 2015 and now Daihatsu is doing the same thing with the Kopen RMZ concept which announces an all-new Copen set to be launched possibly as early as Q1 2014.

Power of the funky two-seater is provided by a 660cc 3-cylinder gasoline engine coupled to a CVT that packs steering wheel-mounted paddles. Both of them share the same physical dimensions: 3395mm (133.6 inches) length, 1475mm (58 inches) width and 1275mm (51 inches) heigh.

Also at Daihatsu's stand at Tokyo Motor Show is a more rugged-looking version of the Kopen concept called XMZ which features body cladding. Both cars ride on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in 165/50 tires and come with a folding metal roof.

Daihatsu says that this concept features replaceable resin body panels, while in the cabin there’s a touchscreen which handles most of the controls, along with an LCD screen.

The Japanese automaker did not say anything about the possibility of putting this concept into production.

Alpina has taken the wraps off their new B4 BiTurbo Coupe at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Based on the BMW 4-Series Coupe, the Alpina B4 BiTurbo has an understated appearance that looks classically elegant. Despite the restrained design, the model has been equipped with front / rear spoilers, a stainless steel sports exhaust system and 20-inch Alpina Classic wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Interior changes are limited but include Lavalina leather upholstery, special floor mats and the obligatory Alpina badging.

Power is provided by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 410 HP (301 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 305 km/h (189 mph). In terms of efficiency, owners can expect to average 7.6 L/100km (30.9 mpg US / 37.1 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.

Speaking of performance, the model has also been equipped with a sport-tuned suspension and a high-performance braking system with discs that measure 370mm front / 345mm rear.

The Alpina B4 BiTurbo Coupe will go on sale in May and an all-wheel drive variant will be available in certain countries.

Honda has unveiled the S660 concept on the eve of the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.

With the S660 concept Honda is providing a preview of an upcoming kei-car for the Japanese market that will go on sale sometime in 2015. It looks as if they designed the car by taking many styling cues from the EV-STER concept showcased two years ago at the same motor show. Honda removed the electric powertrain of the EV-STER and replaced it with a 3-cylinder 660cc turbo engine rated at 64 bhp (48 kW) sent via a seven-speed CVT.

he two-seater convertible makes use of carbon materials to keep the model as lightweight as possible. Power is provided by a 10kWh lithium-ion battery that will keep it going for around 160km and propels the concept from 0-60kph in 5 seconds.

Honda describes the EV-STER's styling as innovating and dynamic with dimensions stated to be 3,570mm long, 1,500mm width and a height of 1,100mm.

The production version will feature a fully retractable roof and will be sold exclusively in Japan. There are some reports indicating Honda plans to sell the car in other areas of the world with a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine outputting 100 bhp (74 kW).

Honda Urban SUV production model debuts at Tokyo Motor Show

Honda has introduced at 2013 Tokyo Motor Show an all-new model called VEZEL which is essentially a production variant of the Urban SUV concept showcased at the beginning of the year at NAIAS.

The Honda VEZEL aims to pave the road for a new type of car that "fuses together multifaceted values at a high level." Honda says it combines the qualities of an SUV with the functionality of a minivan and the elegance of a coupe.

Designed to preview a production model that will be launched in Japan in late 2013, the Urban is a fuel-efficient crossover with an aspirational design. Speaking of the latter, the concept has a rounded appearance which is only interrupted by a questionable front fascia. While the model will surely be toned down for production, the concept has LED headlights, massive alloy wheels and a trunk-mounted spoiler.

Interior pictures were not released, but Honda says the crossover will have a modern cabin with next-generation telematics and a rear seat that can be folded flat to maximize cargo space.

In Japan it will be sold with a 1.5-liter direct-injection gasoline engine and also in a hybrid version packing the same engine working together with a high-output motor and a SPORT HYBRID i-DCD (Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive).

Further details will be released on December 19 and on the following day it is programmed to go on sale in Japan.

The possibility of a new rotary engine, says it's not viable - Mazda CEO

Mazda CEO Masa-michi Kogai has revealed a return to rotary engines is virtually impossible.

Speaking to Al Ain Japan, Kogai said the company doesn't have any plans for a new rotary engine because it's simply not viable to build one. As he explained, if the company were to produce a new rotary engine it would have to be in a "product that can generate at least sales of 100,000 units a year."

While this is disappointing news - especially since Mazda has said they're "zealously working on new models to house the next-generation rotary engine" - Kogai said the company hasn't given up on rotary engines because they can run on a variety of fuels including petrol, hydrogen and kerosene.

As a refresher, Mazda built their last Renesis engine on June 22nd, 2012.

Unique Audi A1 Samurai Blue unveiled in Tokyo

Today at the Tokyo Motor Show, Audi has unveiled the A1 Samurai Blue, a one-off model that will be auctioned with all profits donated to charity.



The blue and white colors of the special model pay respect to the Japanese national soccer team who are nicknamed "Blue Samurai".

The model is question benefits from a set of 18inch wheels that feature an exclusive polygonal design and is powered by the 1.4 TFSI engine that possesses a respectable 122 PS (90kW / 120hp). Inside the cabin we find a black infested interior with corresponding blue air vent nozzles, inlays, center console and floor mats.

Toyota Premi Aqua concept announced, debuts in Tokyo

Toyota has released the first pictures of the Premi Aqua concept, ahead of its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The company declined to release details but the model features a sporty body kit with modified bumpers, revised side skirts and a new rear spoiler. We can also see distinctive headlights, a mesh grille and a rear diffuser. Last but not least, there's new taillights and two-tone alloy wheels.

The upscale styling carries over to the cabin as the model is equipped with leather sport seats, a new center console and metallic trim. We can also see alloy pedals and gloss black accents.

Power will likely be provided by a hybrid power-train that consists of an electric motor and a 1.5-liter engine. This could enable the car to have a combined maximum output of 100 HP (73 kW).

New Nissan 370Z to debut in Tokyo, could have a turbocharged engine - Al Ain Japan

According to a recent report, Nissan will unveil a new 370Z at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Nissan has remained coy about details, but Al Ain Japan says the model will debut later this month and be faithful to its "traditional roots." That's a little vague but the magazine says we can expect a turbocharged engine that displaces less than the current 3.7-liter V6. Despite being smaller, the engine will reportedly be as powerful as the current mill which cranks out 332 bhp (247 kW) and 270 lb-ft (365 Nm) of torque.

Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer also confirmed there will be a Nismo variant but declined to go into specifics. However, he has previously said Nismo variants have distinctive styling, a sport-tuned suspension and a "power hike of around 15 percent."

2015 Subaru WRX STi to debut in Detroit with 304 HP

The 2015 Subaru WRX will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20th and a new report is indicating the WRX STi will debut a few months later at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Citing company insiders, Alain Japan is reporting the model will be distinguished by an aggressive wide body kit and a larger rear spoiler. When also so expect some chassis tweaks to improved handling.

Speaking of the latter, both models will reportedly ride on a new Axle Forward Layout (AFL) chassis that promises to deliver better handling and stability. As the name implies, the front axle is located further forward which reportedly allows the engine to be mounted lower and further back for improved weight distribution. The cars are also slated to receive a torque vectoring system which can individually apply pressure to the brakes.

While yesterday's leak revealed the US-spec models will be offered with a turbocharged 2.0- and 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, Alain Japan says Aussie-bound models will be available exclusively with the latter engine. According to their sources, the AU-spec WRX will produce 265 HP (195 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque while the WRX STi will crank out 304 HP (224 kW) and 393 Nm (290 lb-ft) of torque.

2014 Nissan e-NV200 revealed, debuts in Tokyo

Nissan has unveiled the 2014 e-NV200, ahead of its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Previewed by the e-NV200 concept, the production model has a Leaf-inspired front fascia with rounded curves and blue-tinted headlights. We can also see a charging port that resides where the grille would typically be located.

Interior pictures were not released but Nissan says the e-NV200 will have an advanced telematics system and a rear power supply that can be used to provided power for outdoor events or emergency situations.

Motivation is provided by a lithium-ion battery which powers an electric motor that develops 109 PS (80 kW / 107 hp) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque. Detailed specifications haven't been released, but the battery can be given an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes thanks to a "Quick Charge" system. The battery can also be used to power tools and equipment which could make the e-NV200 an ideal vehicle for mobile restaurants or workshops.

Nissan also announced the production model will be offered in three configurations: a panel van, a passenger carrying shuttle / taxi and a family-oriented version which will apparently be called the Evalia.

2014 Mini Cooper spied ahead of its global debut on Nov 18

Just a couple of days more, BMW will officially unveil the much anticipated 2014 MINI Cooper. The company has already teased the vehicle a couple of times, however the vehicle has already been caught testing. Here is the spy pictures of the vehicle ahead of its full reveal set for Monday. Based on the company's new UKL1 platform, the next MINI looks more attractive and slightly larger than the predecessor. The same platform will also underpin several BMW front-wheel and all-wheel drive models.

The 2014 MINI features an active hood which automatic rises to create a flexible crumple zone during pedestrian collision (speeds between 19-55kmph). Use of high strength steels in its construction has helped the company to make it lighter, which enhances its driving dynamics. It also comes equipped with a lighter braking system and revamped electronic power steering system.

The 2014 MINI gets a new head-up display that provides information onto a small screen on the dashboard. It comes equipped with various safety measures including collision and pedestrian warning system with city braking function and a windscreen-installed camera to avoid sudden collision. The vehicle now features a digital headlight assist system, which automatically activates or deactivates high-beams according to traffic and lighting conditions.

The next generation MINI will be made offered with three- and four-cylinder engines. The 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor develops 136bhp and 220Nm, while the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine is capable of developing 189bhp and 280Nm. Diesel powered 2014 MINI features a newly developed 1.5-litre direct-injection common-rail motor that develops 114bhp and a peak torque of 269Nm.

2014 Toyota Harrier returns

Toyota has officially unveiled in Japan the 2014 Harrier which is basically a rebadged version of the Lexus RX.

The car is scheduled to go on sale on December 2^nd with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT sending power to a standard two-wheel drive or an optional four-wheel drive system. The power unit develops 151 HP (111 kW) and a peak torque of 193 Nm and enables the car to have a fuel consumption in the JC08 Japanese cycle of 16 km/l (6.2 liters / 100 km or 37.9 mpg US or 45.5 mpg UK).

et to be sold exclusively in Japan, the 2014 Harrier adopts a significantly modified front fascia compared to the RX, packing a pair of appealing darkened headlamps, an Avalon-like large air intake as well as what appears to be a glossy transparent plastic grille. At the back there are stylish slender taillights and a roof-mounted spoiler. Official details about what powers the Harrier are not known at this moment but we will find out in the near future as the car will allegedly reach dealerships this winter. Since the attached photos show the "Hybrid Synergy Drive" badge.

Wait until January 15, 2014 and you can order the new Harrier in a hybrid version equipped with a 2.5-liter engine and an electric motor providing a combined output of 196 HP (144 kW) and 206 Nm (152 lb-ft). Toyota mentions the Harrier Hybrid will be sold exclusively with a four-wheel drive arrangement.

The 2014 Toyota Harrier starts at 2,720,000 JPY (about 27,300 USD / 20,300 EUR / 17,175 GBP) for the standard model and from 3,610,000 JPY (36,300 USD / 27,000 EUR / 22,800 GBP) for the hybrid derivative.

Lexus CT200h facelift coming next year

These are the first official images with the mildly facelifted 2014 Lexus CT200h which we already saw about a month ago courtesy of some brochure scans.

 

There's not a lot to talk about in terms of styling changes as the only significant update is the adoption of the corporate spindle grille that now has a more generous lower opening. We also notice the lightly revised front and rear bumpers, along with a fresh design for the alloy wheels.

It was only last week when Lexus Australia boss Sean Hanely confirmed the face-lifted CT200h will be out in 2014 and now the first images have hit the web. Set to be repositioned to better tackle the A3, 1-Series and A-Class, the CT200h adopts the now familiar corporate spindle grille as seen on recent Lexus models such as the IS and ES. Judging by the large alloys, we could be looking at the F Sport derivative

Technical specifications have not been released but we expect to find the same 98 bhp (73 kW) 1.8-liter gasoline engine teamed up with an 80 bhp (60 kW) electric motor, resulting in a combined output of 134 bhp (100 kW). The car will probably do 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 9.8 seconds before topping out at 112 mph (180 km/h).

Lexus has announced the 2014 CT200h will be fully revealed on November 21 in China at the 2013 Guangzhou Motor Show.

Honda FCEV concept

The Los Angeles Auto Show is right around the corner and Honda has announced plans to introduce the FCEV concept at the annual event.

Designed to preview the company's next-generation fuel-cell electric vehicle, the aptly named FCEV concept has a futuristic design with an angular grille and a rakish windscreen.

According to Mike Accavitti, senior vice president of Honda Motor America, "The Honda FCEV concept demonstrates the company's vision for the future of personal mobility and our commitment to developing advanced alternative fuel vehicles." He added, "Our long-term experience with fuel-cell technologies will help us pave a way towards a zero-emissions future."

The production model will be launched in the United States and Japan in 2015 and will eventually be offered in Europe.

Nissan, the Japanese automaker has announced that it will unveil its all-new Blade Glider concept at the Tokyo Motor Show. According to the company, Blade Glider is both a proposal for the future direction of Nissan electric vehicle (EV) development and an exploratory prototype of an upcoming production vehicle from the world's leading EV manufacturer.

Nissan Blade Glider's shape alone, with its narrow front track, challenges the orthodoxy that has dominated the roads since the earliest days of the internal combustion engine. Blade Glider has its conceptual roots in two aerial images: the soaring, silent, panoramic freedom of a glider and the triangular shape of a high performance "swept wing" aircraft. It is therefore fitting that, in terms of engineering, Blade Glider's developmental focus was aerodynamics: achieving low drag (cdA) while generating road-hugging down-force.

Disruptive and challenging to the status quo, Blade Glider shares sustainable engineering values with both Nissan LEAF -- the best-selling EV in history -- and the Nissan ZEOD RC (Zero Emission On Demand Racing Car), which will make its debut at next year's Le Mans 24 Hour race.

To power the electric motors, Blade Glider employs Nissan's innovative lithium-ion battery technology, proven in Nissan LEAF. Battery modules are mounted low and toward the rear to enhance stability and handling. Its tightly streamlined deltoid body comprises a tough and structurally optimized chassis wrapped in ultra-lightweight, yet strong and stiff, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) finished in a pearlescent white color that evokes the pristine freedom of a glider. The racing-inspired exterior features a sculpted contour that is both functional and breathtakingly beautiful. Starting from the low, flat and narrow nose, the body line rises gracefully to the cockpit canopy and then curves forcefully back over the large rear wheels, evoking a sense of dynamic movement even when the vehicle is standing still.

Inside the canopy, the cockpit seats three in a triangular configuration with the driver center-forward. Seating appointments feature special light and comfortable coverings with yellow fluorescent lines. Amid simple yet edgy interior styling cues, an aircraft-type steering wheel and state-of-the-art instrumentation technology complete the glider-like image. To support maximum EV cruising efficiency, the IT system can display relief maps and atmospheric conditions.

As a rear-drive performance car, BladeGlider exhibits a coherent and linear handling that enables it to consistently hug road curves, providing feedback for intuitive and exhilarating steering control when cornering under threshold conditions.

2014 Nissan Patrol facelift spied

Nissan has released the first promotional video for the mildly facelifted Patrol, following several spy photos we published at the beginning of the month.

 

 

Now in its sixth generation, the current Patrol was launched in 2010 so Nissan has prepared a mid-cycle update for its popular SUV. Don’t expect a lot of changes as we only notice subtle modifications to the front fascia and the taillight graphics. There also seem to be a fresh new design for the alloys and tan leather upholstery inside the cabin which also gets a wood-trimmed steering wheel.

Nissan has also introduced a limited-run Patrol Black Special Edition which will be offered in 200 units. These cars will come several enhancements such as red seats, chrome detailing and a black matte exterior paint scheme.

Nissan has announced plans to introduce a handful of models at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The company declined to release pictures of the highly-anticipated GT-R Nismo but confirmed the model will be shown alongside the new DAYZ ROOX super-height wagon.  Essentially a rebadged Mitsubishi eK Space, the DAYZ ROOX will go on sale early next year and come equipped with one-touch sliding rear doors, a "rear ceiling fan" and roll-up rear sunshades.

Nissan will also introduce the LEAF Aero Style which features a new front bumper, revised side skirts and LED fog lights. The model will go on sale in Japan this December.

Other highlights include the new Teana, Skyline and X-TRAIL. The company will also show an updated Serena, a safer Note and a restyled Elgrand that has a prominent front fascia with a massive grille.

Described as a "super height" wagon, the DAYZ ROOX will become the company's second minicar that was jointly-developed with Mitsubishi. The company declined to go into specifics but said the model will be launched early next year and "will reflect Nissan's brand identity in exterior design as well as features that will be inherited from the know-how cultivated from Serena."

That's not much to go on, but the teaser image suggests the model will have an upright front fascia with a prominent grille and slender headlights. We can also see a distinctive beltline and blacked out pillars which give the model a 'floating roof.'

Little else is known about the minicar but Nissan says it will have a comfortable and roomy cabin as well as a fuel-efficient powertrain.

It turns out previous spy photos showed (thankfully) only test mules of Nissan's forthcoming competitor for the Volkswagen Golf VII who could receive the Tiida or Almera moniker. Set to be a global model, the new C-segment offering from Nissan will be out towards the end of 2014 as a 2015MY with a body which looks similar to that of the Toyota Auris but maybe that's because of the bulky camo.

Nissan has promised to fully rival the seventh-gen Golf "from BlueMotion to GTI" at a competitive sticker price. The economical version will have a diesel engine capable of matching the Golf BM's 73.5 mpg US (88.3 mpg UK or 3.2 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of 85 g/km. Nissan's response to the Golf GTI will be a Nismo-flavored version of the new Tiida/Almera.

Honda Urban SUV at the Tokyo Motor Show

Honda, the Japanese automaker will unveil the production version of its Urban SUV at the Tokyo Motor Show. Based on the 2014 Jazz platform, the vehicle will also make its way to the Indian car market by 2015. Meanwhile, the patent images of this mini SUV have been leaked on web, giving the idea what could be the design of the SUV when it will be put into production. 

The upcoming Honda Urban SUV will ride on the Global Compact Series platform, the same one which was used by the company for the outgoing City and Fit, and the SUV will use the Earth Dreams Technology.

The patent images of the compact SUV shows that it source most of its styling cues from the concept showcased earlier this year. It will have an appealing body design with curves, low roofline and a broad stance. The Honda Urban SUV will be more than 4 meter (4300mm) in length, but it will be much smaller (about 228mm) than the company's flagship SUV CR-V. At the time of the concept's unveiling, the company described the vehicle as "Dynamic and sporty, but spacious and functional". 

For global markets, the Urban SUV is likely to be powered by the same engine that powers the Jazz, and is expected to get the Civic's 1.6-litre diesel engine

Nissan Qashqai - Al Ain Japan

The first official images with the second generation Nissan Qashqai have surfaced the web, ahead of a full reveal set for later today.



Nissan has decided to borrow many styling ideas seen on the X-Trail / Rogue but in a more compact package. It's basically the same story inside the cabin where the 2014 Qashqai mimics its larger sibling as it has just about the same layout. It will be offered only as a five-seater because the privilege of a seven-seat version has already been attributed to the X-Trail.

Production will take place at the firm's Sunderland factory in UK and the car is expected to hit the market sometime next year. Upon launch it will be offered to European customers with a 1.2-liter DiG-T four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 113 bhp (84 kW). There will also be a 1.5-liter dCi diesel with 108 bhp (80 kW) and a 1.6-liter dCi outputting 128 bhp (95 kW).

The crossover will reportedly ride on a new modular platform that will eventually be used on several upcoming sedans as well as the next-generation X-Trail. Front-wheel drive will be standard, but all-wheel drive will be optional.
 
The 2014 Nissan Qashqai will go on sale early next year and pricing is expected to remain similar to today's model.

There will also be a plug-in hybrid variant, but it isn't scheduled to be launched until 2015.

As per the latest auto news, a research undertaken by Warranty Direct ・an insurance expert and by What Car? ・the motoring magazine ・indicates that Japanese cars are the most reliable in the used car category. A reliability survey also showed that the top seven places in ten were taken by Japan car manufacturers while European used cars are from among the ten least reliable

Japanese car manufacturers Honda ・leading for the fifth year, followed by Subaru, Mitsubishi, Lexus and Toyota ・in that order ・took the top credits in polls conducted on performing old cars aged between three and ten years . Very few of these cars required repairs in a one year period of use, with Honda leading with the least at just seven per cent cars needing repairs.

The other Japanese used cars leading the lot were Mazda and Nissan. Germany-made Skoda and Britain-made MINI were the only cars from the west that passed the survey of reliable used cars, with Skoda in the eighth and MINI in the tenth position. Among the least reliable cars Land Rover of Britain led at 53% failure rate with other European cars Renault Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Vauxhall, MG, Saab, BMW, Rover and the Audi proving to be prone to more break downs. What Car? stated that break down charges on a Renault are lower as compared to Mazda and Porsche. These surveys are a boon to car manufacturers, which keep striving to improve the mechanics of their newer models to making them more reliable and in another couple of years of more, the hard facts on these poorly performing vehicles are likely to disappear altogether.

Car manufacturers holding prestigious positions have had to undergo embarrassing rates of failure as compared to manufacturers of cars that have been pegged as not being reliable, as the latter are showing signs of improving on their reliability status. Among Japanese manufactured cars, in spite of the fact that used Honda cars give the least problems, ten percent of their break downs happen with the air conditioning systems.

Subaru's have gained notoriety with their brakes failure and axle and suspension problems. Even with Toyota having to recall several thousands of their cars from the showrooms, their reliability rating for Japanese used cars has not fallen. The new manufacturing units for Japanese cars are improving on their cars and it is anticipated that Japanese cars will maintain their number one position for being the most reliable cars. Jaguar has released the first teaser image of the 2014 F-Type Coupe, ahead of its debut on November 19th. 

Previewed by the C-X16 concept, the production model will follow in the footsteps of the F-Type Roadster and adopt a stylish design with sensuous curves and muscular rear fenders. The teaser image also reveals the coupe will be available with a panoramic glass roof.

According to Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum, "The excitement generated when we revealed the C-X16 concept was terrific; so to now be on the cusp of what I can assure you will be a drama-filled reveal event in Tokyo Motor Show for F-TYPE Coupe is a very significant moment."



Rumors are pointing at an entry-level version equipped with a turbocharged 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine generating 240 HP (177 kW) and 251 lb-ft (340 Nm). At the other end of the lineup, the alleged F-Type R-S Coupe is going to pack more than 709 HP (522 kW) and should hit a top speed in excess of 200 mph (322 km/h). This range-topping model is scheduled to come out in 2016.

Engine options will likely carryover from the roadster so expect choices to include a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 340 HP (250 kW), a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 380 HP (279 kW) and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 495 HP (364 kW).

The Jaguar F-Type Coupe will go on sale in North America next spring and pricing will be announced closer to launch.

Toyota Used Car Exporters - Al Ain Japan

Toyota has revealed its lineup of concepts set to be publicly introduced later this month at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan

The most important vehicle to be exhibited at Toyota's stand at Tokyo Motor Show will be the FCV concept but the Japanese marque will also showcase several other cars. One of these vehicles is the Aqua G Sports concept tuned by Gazoo Racing which will reach the JDM towards the end of the month.


There's also the already shown FT-86 Open concept, essentially a convertible version of the GT-86 Coupe featuring an electrically-operated soft top. The vehicle which will be showcased at Tokyo will have a new "flash red" exterior paint whereas the one presented earlier this year at Geneva had a white paint scheme.


Up next is the JPN TAXI concept envisioned as a next-gen taxi "created with Japanese hospitality in mind." It comes with large electrically-operated doors and a low, flat floor enabling an easy entrance and exit. The Toyota i-Road concept was originally introduced in March at Geneva and will make a comeback later this month in Tokyo. Starting 2014, the vehicle will be used in verification tests within Tokyo's urban transportation system as well as in an urban EV car-sharing project in Grenoble, France.

Also in Tokyo there will be Toyota's Voxy and Noah concepts previewing next-gen minivans with a spacious cabin. The duo has been designed to work with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine but also in a 1.8-liter hybrid version. These two concepts will receive a production version programmed to hit Toyota showrooms at the beginning of 2014.


Lastly, the Fun Vehicle 2 (FV2) is a one-seater future vehicle expressing the firm's "Fun to Drive" philosophy. It doesn't come with a conventional steering wheel as the driver operates the concept by shifting his/her body "to intuitively move the vehicle forward and back, left and right


Toyota has also revealed the Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) concept ahead of a programmed Tokyo Motor Show debut later this month. Al Ain Japan


 

The concept serves as a preview for the long-awaited production fuel-cell vehicle Toyota plans on launching "around 2015." The FCV seen here is far from being a looker but it wasn't created to win automotive design awards as the car's main purpose is to lead the way of hydrogen-powered vehicles. Toyota says it takes only three minutes to refuel the car and will do at least 500 km (310 miles) before the fuel is depleted.


The concept has two 70 MPa high-pressure fuel stacks located beneath the body and provides a power output density of 3 kW/L and an output of at least 100 kW. The FCV concept is 4870mm long, 1810mm wide and 1535mm tall, with a 2780mm wheelbase which offers enough cabin space for four people.


According to Toyota, when the car's fuel stacks are full they can deliver sufficient electricity to power an average Japanese home (10 kWh) for more than seven days.
