Toyota has launched the Corolla Axio and Corolla Fielder hybrids in Japan.

On the styling front, the eco-friendly models are distinguished by a new grille, "Synergy Blue" emblems and an available Light Blue Metallic paint job.

Interior changes are more extensive and include special seat upholstery, a faux leather dashboard and a blue-accented leather shift knob. There's also a 4.2-inch multi-information display and a "nanoe" ionizer that removes pollen by releasing "particle ions embedded in minute water droplets."

Both models are powered by a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle engine that develops 74 HP (54 kW) and 111 Nm (81 lb-ft) of torque. It is backed up by an electric motor that has a maximum output of 61 HP (45 kW) and 169 Nm (124 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the model to have a combined output of 100 HP (73 kW) and a fuel economy rating of 3.0 L/100km (77.6 mpg US / 93.2 mpg UK) in the JC08 test cycle.

To compensate for the weight of the hybrid's battery system, engineers retuned the suspension and shock absorbers to deliver "outstanding levels of ride comfort and handling stability." The cars have also been equipped with a noise-reducing windshield and additional sound deadening material.

Pricing starts at ¥1,925,000 and Toyota expects to sell 1,000 Axio hybrids and 1,500 Fielder hybrids in Japan each month.

MX-5 Miata

Mazda has announced plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the MX-5 Miata at the New York Auto Show.

The next-generation model won't be on display but Mazda will showcase 15 different MX-5s. The company didn't go into specifics but promised we can expect everything from "auto show concepts to race cars to production models."

According to Mazda North America Operations CEO Jim O'Sullivan, "[The] MX-5 Miata is the quintessential Mazda and after 25 years, every vehicle in the lineup continues to feature some characteristic of MX-5: a fluid shifter, lightness on its feet, quickness around a corner, a fun-to-drive DNA." He went on to say "With all the whiz-bang technology and comfort amenities increasingly added to modern vehicles, MX-5's direct connection between car and driver still remains the standard feature that puts smiles on drivers' faces."

The XV40 Camry was introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show alongside a hybrid version and went on sale in March 2006 for the 2007 model year.

Power comes from a choice of four and six-cylinder engines. For 2010, power was increased to 169 horsepower, versus the 158 from 2007 to 2009. Power locks, stability control, and traction control were also made standard for 2010. The 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE I4 engine was carried over and produced 158 horsepower (118 kW). It came with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 in contrast came with a new six-speed automatic and produced 268 horsepower (200 kW). The Camry was facelifted in 2009 for the 2010 model year with a redesigned fascia, taillights, and an all-new 2.5-liter 2AR-FE four-cylinder engine with a new six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5-liter engine produces 169 horsepower (126 kW) for the base, LE, XLE models, and 179 horsepower (133 kW) for the SE.

The XV40 series Camry is the first in which the Camry has been available as a gasoline/electric hybrid. The Camry Hybrid utilizes Toyota’s second-generation Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) and a 2AZ-FXE four-cylinder with 110 kilowatts (150 hp) in conjunction with a 30 kilowatts (40 hp) electric motor for a combined output of 140 kilowatts (190 hp).

2015 Jeep Renegade small SUV unveiled with quirky yet cute looks

Jeep recently unveiled the 2015 Renegade at the Geneva Motor Show, so X-Tomi Design has created a rendering of an SRT variant.

Drawing cues from the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, the Renegade has an aggressive front bumper with black accents and metallic air intake surrounds. The crossover also has a blacked out grille, body-color side skirts and sporty alloy wheels.

Unfortunately, we're not getting our hopes up for a production variant as SRT CEO Ralph Gilles has previously said four-cylinder engines are in their long-terms plans but they're currently "in between great engines" so "there’s nothing available right now."

Depending on the market, the new baby Jeep is going to be sold with no less than 16 powertrain combinations encompassing four MultiAir gasoline motors, two MultiJet II diesel units and a flex-fuel E.torQ engine coupled to two manual gearboxes, one dual-clutch DDCT and the aforementioned nine-speed auto 'box.

On the inside there will be an Uconnect infotainment system with a 5 or 6.5-inch touchscreen display offering a wide array of technological goodies such as Bluetooth, DAB and HD radio, Sirius services, USB & AUX, as well as digital media broadcasting. In addition, the driver gets to play around with a 7-inch color multi-view reconfigurable display acting as the instrument cluster.

The radical-looking Renegade draws its styling inspiration from the bigger Wrangler but Jeep says it also represents a throwback to the original military jeep with its boxy shape, seven-slot vertical front grille and a high ground clearance. It has a somewhat low drag coefficient of 0.36 and will be offered in a trail-rated variant called Trail-hawk 4x4 with 17-inch all-terrain tires and a Select-Terrain system.

Jeep will also offer two open-air roof panel systems called My Sky while Moper has already created a full suite of accessories to spice up the 2015 Renegade, from roof boxes and air deflectors to door sill guards and a rear backup camera.

As a result, the Renegade's range-topping engine will likely be the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder - that produces 184 bhp (137 kW) and 177 lb-ft (236 Nm) of torque - for the foreseeable future.

Toyota's Australian product planning manager has revealed the company is considering a small crossover to slot below the RAV4.

 

 

Speaking to Japanese Car Dealer, Mark Dobson said the compact crossover segment is a "market for all players" and "Toyota is interested in any market that is growing.” He went on to say the company has already been conducting research on a potential model to slot below the RAV4 and “That’s the car they [people] want to buy. Those types of cars were seen to satisfy those trends.”

While Toyota already offers the Rush in some markets, it appears the new compact crossover could have greater availability as the segment is booming globally with new entries such as the Opel / Vauxhall Mokka, Buick Encore and Ford EcoSport.

The interior boasts an asymmetrical dashboard which incorporates ambient lighting, secondary controls and a 6.1-inch touchscreen display. There's also has a three-spoke steering wheel, metallic accents and circular air vents. Entry-level models are sparsely equipped but higher-end variants can be ordered with leather upholstery, an Entune infotainment system and an 11-speaker JBL GreenEdge premium audio system.

Power is provided exclusively by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 176 bhp (131 kW) and 172 lb-ft (233 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a new six-speed transmission that enables the model to return 24 mpg city / 31 mpg highway with front-wheel drive and 22 mpg city / 29 mpg highway with the optional all-wheel drive system.

Speaking of the all-wheel drive system, it offers three different modes: Auto, Lock and Sport. Auto Mode primarily sends power to the front wheels but will automatically engage the rear wheels when needed. Lock Mode, on the other hand, evenly distributes power between the front- and rear wheels at speeds less than 25 mph (40 km/h). Lastly, Sport Mode promises to improve the crossover's handling by instantaneous transferring torque to the rear wheels when going around corners.

This is the McLaren 650S - Al Ain Japan

Following a comprehensive leak last weekend, McLaren has revealed online the 650S which will be presented to the public on March 4 at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

There aren't a lot to talk about in terms of design as the 650S looks essentially like the 12C but with the front fascia taken from the sold-out P1. The mid-range McLaren has received the "650" lettering as its 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine produces 650 HP (478 kW) while the "S" stands for "Sport". Performance figures will be disclosed prior to the car's Geneva launch but McLaren has already announced the 650S will be faster than the 12C so it will be a more appropriate adversary for the Ferrari 458 Special.

You'll notice the new front end, which obviously draws heavily on the P1. The lights are now LED affairs, while there are larger air intakes both in the nose and in front of the rear wheels, which not only aid cooling but also contribute to the 650S's improved aero.

The vehicle rides on fresh five-spoke lightweight forged alloy wheels wrapped around in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires specially developed for this model. Other small changes include door blades behind the front wheels which generate more down-force, helping the new model provide an additional 24 percent of down-force at 150 mph (241 km/h) compared to the 12C.

The McLaren 650S will be available in coupe and Spider body styles from this spring.

Honda spokesman told Automotive News Europe the Insight and CR-Z hybrids won't be offered in Europe anymore.

It was October last year when we heard a rumor about Honda's decision to stop selling the Insight and CR-Z models on the old continent and now that rumor is a reality. Due to a weak demand, Honda has decided to withdraw these hybrids from Europe but you can still have one since the company has a few of them left in stock.

Honda sold 62 percent less units of the Insight last year in Europe, managing to deliver just 1,242 cars. Sales of the CR-Z dropped by 66 percent to only 695 units, based on the figures released by market researcher JATO Dynamics.

As we have previously reported, the Insight has a 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine and an electric motor that enables the model to produce a combined maximum output of 102 HP (75 kW) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to return 65.7 mpg UK (4.3 L/100km / 54.7 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 99 g/km.

The CR-Z, on the other hand, has a 1.5-liter engine and electric motor for a combined maximum output of 137 HP (100 kW) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque. This allows the hatchback to average up to 56.5 mpg UK (5.0 L/100km / 47.0 mpg US) with CO2 emissions as low as 116 g/km.

Europeans who would really like to have an alternative-powered Honda can grab the previous-gen Jazz but this model has also gone down in popularity, with sales decreasing from 7,500 units in 2012 to 4,500 cars in 2013. A plug-in hybrid variant of the new Jazz fit is slated for a 2015 release but Honda hasn't decided whether the model will hit European dealerships.

Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4

Lamborghini has announced they have received 700 orders for the Huracan LP 610-4.

Described as an "excellent start for the heir to the best selling Lamborghini to date," the model is currently on a "month-long private preview tour worldwide for VIP clients." The tour will wrap up later this month before the model is officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on March 4th.

As a refresher, the Huracan has a 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces 610 HP (448 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel drive system which enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 325 km/h (202 mph).

Designed to whet your appetite, the configurator reveals the Huracan will be available with 19 different exterior colors and two different 20-inch alloy wheels. The model can also be equipped with a transparent or black engine cover as well as brake calipers in black, silver, red, orange or yellow.

The 1,422 kg (3,134 lbs) supercar will need 3.2 seconds to get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) while the 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) sprint will take 9.9 seconds. The engine is Euro 6 compliant and enables the Huracan to have an average fuel consumption of 12.5 liters / 100 km (18.8 mpg US or 22.5 mpg UK). Power is sent to both axles through a dual-clutch gearbox and on the steering wheel there's a switch to select from one of the three available driving modes: Strada, Sport and Corsa.

The Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 comes as standard with carbon ceramic brakes and a large 12.3-inch TFT display inside the cabin which provides all the necessary info, from tachometer to the infotainment system.

Kia has announced the 2015 K900 V8 - Al Ain Japan

Kia has announced the 2015 K900 V8 will cost $59,500 - excluding a $900 destination charge - in the United States.

Set to go on sale later this year, the model comes nicely equipped with adaptive LED headlights, a power-operated trunk and 19-inch chrome-clad alloy wheels.

The cabin boasts an extensive array of standard equipment including a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel, Nappa leather seats and poplar or walnut wood trim. The model also has heated / ventilated front seats, LED ambient lighting and a 17-speaker Lexicon audio system.

It will be offered with an entry-level V6 3.8-liter Lamba engine producing 311 bhp (232 kW) or with an optional beefier V8 5.0-liter Tau generating 420 bhp (313 kW). Both of them are coupled to a newly developed eight-speed transmission sending output to the rear axle.

Kia has equipped the K900 with a five-link fully independent front and rear suspension and standard 18-inch alloys for the V6 model whereas the V8 gets larger 19-inch wheels. Also standard for the eight-cylinder model are adaptive LED headlights comprising of 16 LED bulbs, together with positioning lamps, fog lights, turn signal indicators and taillights that adopt the same technology. 

Also as standard equipment are front and rear park assist sensors and camera, with the V8-powered model also getting the company’s first ever Rear Cross Traffic Alert system. Other technologies available include a lane departure warning system, radar-based Advanced Smart Cruise Control and Kia's first use of the Advanced Vehicle Safety Management.

Described as an "exciting new variant," the special edition is based on the Camry XLE Hybrid and features Camry SE bodywork and 17-inch alloy wheels with low profile tires.

Interior changes are limited but the model has a leather-wrapped steering wheel, silver trim and seats from the Camry SE. The model can also be equipped with a $2,215 package that includes a moon-roof, GPS navigation and the En-tune Apps Suite.

Like the standard model, the special edition has a hybridized 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 200 bhp (149 kW). It enables the sedan to return 40 mpg city / 38 mpg highway / 40 mpg combined. 2013 Toyota Camry SE Sport Limited edition is a not so sporty engine in the form of a 4-cylinder 2.5-liter unit that produces 178 hp (133 kW / 180 PS) and a peak torque of 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) which allows the car to return 25 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Datsun budget sedan seen without camo in Russia

An undisguised Datsun sedan was spotted somewhere in Russia, ahead of a very possible launch later this year.

Details about the low-cost Datsun sedan are not available at this point but it is believed the model will be based on the Lada Granta which is actually based on the Lada Kalina. This platform was created by Renault in collaboration with Russian carmaker AvtoVAZ and was likely used for this sedan which will reportedly receive a hatchback derivative late this year.

It will be offered exclusively with a 1.2-liter engine linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The exterior design closely mirrors the Micra, while inside the typical glovebox has been replaced by a space under the dashboard. Datsun moved the handbrake and gear lever to the dashboard as a method to free up space between the front seats. They also borrowed the Micra’s door handles and AC vents.

 

Production of the Datsun sedan will take place in Russia and order books will allegedly open in April. The aforementioned five-door hatchback will likely be unveiled in August at the Moscow Motor Show.

2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid unveiled - Al Ain Japan

Toyota has announced the 2014 Highlander will be priced from $29,215 when it goes on sale in the United States in February.

The entry-level model comes sparsely equipped but features an eight seat interior, a backup camera, an Entune audio system and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The LE Plus adds an eight-way power driver seat, an upgraded audio system, a tri-zone automatic climate control system and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The model also has fog lights and a power liftgate.

Moving up to the XLE rewards owners with heated leather front seats, a moonroof and a premium audio system with GPS navigation and an 8-inch display.

Inside, the cabin comes nicely equipped with perforated leather seats, second row captain's chairs and a third row bench that can accommodate up three passengers. The model is also has wood grain trim, a JBL audio system, an En-tune infotainment system and a 4.2-inch Multi-Information Display that has an energy monitor

The range-topping Limited boasts perforated leather seats, heated / cooled front seats and a variety of safety systems. The model also has LED daytime running lights and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Depending on which model is selected, options include a heated steering wheel, second row captain chairs, ambient interior lighting and a Blu-ray entertainment system. The crossover can also be equipped with automatic high beam headlights, a dynamic radar cruise control system and a Smart Key system.

Under the hood, three different engines are available including:

• A 2.7-liter four-cylinder with 185 bhp (138 kW)
• A 3.5-liter V6 with 270 bhp (201 kW) and 248 lb-ft (335 Nm) of torque
• A hybridized 3.5-liter V6 with a combined maximum output of 280 bhp (209 kW)

 Motivation is provided by a Hybrid Synergy Drive system that consists of a 3.5-liter V6 engine and an electric motor-generator. It is connected to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission and an electronic on-demand all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the crossover to produce a combined maximum output of 280 bhp (209 kW) and return an EPA-estimated 28 mpg city / 28 mpg highway / 28 mpg combined (US).

the Harrier TRD Sportivo

Toyota has announced plans to introduce a variety of concepts at the Tokyo Auto Salon.

The company is keeping details a closely guarded secret but they confirmed plans to showcase the Harrier Modellista and Harrier TRD Sportivo concept at the event.

First up, the Harrier TRD Sportivo concept has been equipped with an aerodynamic body kit that includes a front spoiler, revised side skirts and two rear spoilers. The crossover also has a revised grille, a TRD suspension, a sports exhaust system and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

Likewise, the Harrier Modellista has a Ver.1 Aero kit with a front spoiler, revised side skirts and a tailgate-mounted spoiler. There's also lowering springs and 19-inch aluminum wheels with Yokohama tires.

Interior pictures were not released but Toyota says the model has piano black trim, a wooden luggage compartment and LED lighting.

The car is scheduled to go on sale on December 2^nd with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a CVT sending power to a standard two-wheel drive or an optional four-wheel drive system. The power unit develops 151 HP (111 kW) and a peak torque of 193 Nm and enables the car to have a fuel consumption in the JC08 Japanese cycle of 16 km/l (6.2 liters / 100 km or 37.9 mpg US or 45.5 mpg UK).  It is connected to a continuously variable transmission that sends power to the front wheels.

Wait until January 15, 2014 and you can order the new Harrier in a hybrid version equipped with a 2.5-liter engine and an electric motor providing a combined output of 196 HP (144 kW) and 206 Nm (152 lb-ft). Toyota mentions the Harrier Hybrid will be sold exclusively with a four-wheel drive arrangement. 

The 2014 Toyota Harrier starts at 2,720,000 JPY (about 27,300 USD / 20,300 EUR / 17,175 GBP) for the standard model and from 3,610,000 JPY (36,300 USD / 27,000 EUR / 22,800 GBP) for the hybrid derivative.

Vezel compact crossover will enter the U.S. market in 2014

Honda has announced the Vezel compact crossover will enter the U.S. market in 2014, followed by a European launch in 2015.

The Honda Vezel represents a production version of the Urban SUV concept and was showcased to the public for the first time in November at Tokyo Motor Show. The JDM variant is already on sale and now we have learned from Honda the U.S.-spec model is scheduled to come out in the second half of 2014.

The Jazz/Fit-based crossover will also reach the European market in 2015 when it will have to face competition coming from the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008. Details about what will power the U.S.- and Euro-spec versions of the Vezel have not been announced, but Honda did say the hybrid version – which has a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, 22 kW electric motor and 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox - will not leave Japanese territory.

Honda Vezel's chief engineer, Yoshiharu Itai, said the car will likely retain its moniker since it's a global strategic vehicle but according to Honda officials it will receive several tweaks (most likely cosmetic) to better suit local markets.

An undisguised 2015 Chrysler 200 was spied in the evening while participating in the shooting of a promotional clip.

Right from the start we notice the sloping roofline which provides the car with an almost coupe-like silhouette while the front of the vehicle shows some Tesla Model S cues, especially in the headlights. There's also a chromed grille and overall the design is considerably more fresh compared to the outgoing model.

Our spies also managed to grab some shots of the interior in the daylight and it seems to be derived from the Dodge Dart, featuring a small number of buttons and knobs along with a rotary gear selector which could indicate the vehicle will be offered with the rumored 9-speed automatic gearbox helping the sedan hit 38 mpg US (45.6 mpg UK or 6.1 liters / 100 km) on the highway. There were also some LED lightning effects throughout the cabin which are likely taken from the Dart.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 will be reportedly unveiled in January at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
