Toyota Supra successor to have a mid-mounted, hybridized 3.5-liter V6

The rumor mill is back in action as Al Ain Japan is reporting a Supra concept will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

 

Citing "well-placed members of the Toyota team," the website is reporting the company will unveil a new concept that will preview the upcoming production model. Toyota declined to confirm the rumors but company chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada has stated he wants the jointly-developed BMW-Toyota sports car to be a high-performance model that is comparable to the Supra. Toyota GT 86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada has also said the company has asked him to "make a successor to the Supra as soon as possible."

Entry-level model had a naturally-aspirated 3.0-liter straight six with 220 bhp (164 kW), the high-performance variant added two turbochargers to increase the output to 326 bhp (243 kW). and power will be provided by a mid-mounted, hybridized 3.5-liter V6 engine and two in-wheel electric motors. The petrol engine would reportedly power the rear wheels, while the electric motors would turn the front. This setup would give the car an all-wheel drive system as well as an output in excess of 400 hp (298 kW / 405 PS).

If everything pans out, the production model - which is unlikely to revive the Supra name - could be introduced by late 2015 and retail for less than $60,000.

We're taking everything with a grain of salt but previous reports have indicated the production model could be launched in 2017 and feature a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine which is outfitted with a hybrid system.

You'll find plenty of four-year-old Honda Odyssey minivans in the new Corolla's price range. 

 

You can also move up in prestige. A new Toyota Camry XLE V6 with all the bells and whistles is a nice ride; at $30,000 it had better be. But for the same price (or even a couple grand less), you could be stylin' in a two-year-old Lexus ES330, Audi A6 or BMW 325i.

More and more manufacturers offer "certified pre-owned" programs. Cars sold as certified pre-owned (CPO) bridge the gap between new and used. Buying a Japanese Used Car

As per the latest auto news – A Research undertaken by Expert for Used Cars. The Al Ain Japan Indicates that Japanese cars are the most reliable in the used car category. A reliability survey also showed that the top seven places in ten were taken by Japan Car Manufacturers while European used cars are from among the ten least reliable. 

Japanese car manufacturers Honda · leading for the fifth year, followed by Subaru, Mitsubishi, Lexus and Toyota · in that order · took the top credits in polls conducted on performing old cars aged between three and ten years. Very few of these cars required repairs in a one year period of use, with Honda leading with the least at just seven per cent cars needing repairs.The other Japanese used cars leading the lot were Mazda and Nissan. Germany-made Skoda and Britain-made MINI were the only cars from the west that passed the survey of reliable used cars, with Skoda in the eighth and MINI in the tenth position. Among the least reliable cars Land Rover of Britain led at 53% failure rate with other European cars Renault, Alfa Romeo, Peugeot, Vauxhall, MG, Saab, BMW, Rover and Audi proving to be prone to more break downs. What Car? stated that break down charges on a Renault are lower as compared to Mazda and Porsche. 

These surveys are a boon to car manufacturers, which keep striving to improve the mechanics of their newer models to making them more reliable and in another couple of years of more, the hard facts on these poorly performing vehicles are likely to disappear altogether.Car manufacturers holding prestigious positions have had to undergo embarrassing rates of failure as compared to manufacturers of cars that have been pegged as not being reliable, as the latter are showing signs of improving on their reliability status. 

Among Japanese manufactured cars, in spite of the fact that used Honda cars give the least problems, ten percent of their break downs happen with the air conditioning systems.Subaru’s have gained notoriety with their brakes failure and axle and suspension problems. Even with Toyota having to recall several thousands of their cars from the showrooms, their reliability rating for Japanese used cars has not fallen.

Mitsubishi Reveals electric i-MiEV

The Japanese automaker specifically released the car today to mark the United Nations' World Environment Day, pointing out that the i-MiEV is responsible for two-thirds less CO2 emissions versus the petrol-using Mitsubishi i.  These emissions come from the powerplants that ultimately supply the i-MiEV with fuel, but it is not clear what type of plant Mitsubishi is referring to.

Although lower emissions if very much the trend these days, Mitsubishi faces an uphill battle with this vehicle.  Japanese consumers are likely to suffer sticker shock when they see the tax inclusive price of ¥4,599,000 ($47,544).  Potential new customers will most certainly weigh their needs when they see the cost.

The tiny electric car has a lithium-ion battery center-mounted under the floor, with power being sent to a unit mounted in the boot.  Mitsubishi claims a range of 160 km (100 miles) when the car is driven under normal urban conditions.  The battery can be recharged to 80 percent capacity in about half an hour when using a 200 V, 50 kW three-phase power source.  Using standard outlets, the car goes from empty to fully-charged in either seven or 14 hours, depending on the voltage used.  Regenerative braking also helps to recharge the battery pack.

Ultimately, the driver gets a motor rated at 47kW, with 180 Nm of torque available almost immediately.  Mitsubishi did not release figures related to either the car's acceleration, top speed, or quarter-mile times.  We do know that the driver will have three different drive modes to choose from, including "maximum fun," "maximum economy," and "maximum regenerative."

Inside, the driver will be fed data through an instrument cluster with a few meters we would expect to see on an electric-powered vehicle.  Along with power consumption and energy recovery information, the driver is also given information about range, and remaining power.  This system is powered by a computer operating system developed specifically for this car.  An optional, multimedia system running off a solid-state hard drive is also available.

Headlamps are fully LED, as is the rear lighting clusters. 

The initial 1,400 units will be handed over to various corporations and government bodies over the summer.  Sales of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV will begin in April 2010.

The Cayenne Platinum Edition

Porsche is upgrading the Cayenne six-cylinder models through a special series known as the Platinum Edition. The Cayenne and Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition come with unique exterior design features in Platinum Silver and a wider range of standard equipment.

The enhanced equipment range available for the new models is especially designed to increase comfort and safety. The Cayenne Platinum Edition models feature standard Tiptronic S transmission, Bi-Xenon headlights, Power Steering Plus, ParkAssist (front and rear), as well as privacy glazing in the rear. 

Painted in Platinum Silver Metallic, the air intake slats on the front apron, the side window surrounds, the rear spoiler lip and the rear bumper trim strip emphasise the sporty shape of the car and add an elegant note. Available paint finishes are Black and White, as well as optional Meteor Grey Metallic, Basalt Black Metallic, and Mahogany Metallic. The Carrara White Metallic paint finish is also an option available, exclusively for this Cayenne edition. The exterior is rounded off by the 19-inch Cayenne Design II wheels with coloured crest.

The Cayenne Platinum Edition offers an output of 300 hp with an average fuel consumption is 9.9 litres/100 km (236 g/km CO2). Featuring a three-litre V6 engine, the Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition offers an output of 245 hp and a consumption level of 7.2 litres over 100 kilometres (189 g/km CO2).

The new models are available for order as of now, with first units being delivered in February of 2014. Basic retail prices will be announced soon.

Mercedes-Benz GLA Class

Mercedes-Benz had unveiled its fourth offering on the MFA platform, and this was the GLA-Class, which was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. With styling similar to the A-Class, the GLA-Class will be the new compact front-wheel drive SUV, and there will also be an option of automatic as well. The GLA-Class will also be offered with 4MATIC option as well. In Europe it will be available in GLA 200 and GLA 250 petrol engines and GLA 200 CDI and GLA 220 CDI diesel options. The 250 and 250 will also come with the option of 4 MATIC.

This deliveries of this new compact SUV in Europe will begin sometime in May 2014 and we can expect it to enter India by as early as end of 2014. This will be game-changing product for Mercedes-Benz India as this will be the new volume seller. Until then Mercedes-Benz won’t be sitting quiet, as it will get the new S-Class and even the CLA-Class to India. Expect the S-Class to be launched sometime in February and the CLA might just take some more time, maybe till mid-2014. Also, expect the E-Class Cabriolet and the Coupe along with the V6 engines to make an entry next year.

At the moment, Mercedes-Benz gets its major sales from the luxury sedans like the C-Class and the E-Class, as they make up to 60%, while the SUVs and the compact segment does 20% each. As the number of SUV allotted to India is limited, hence the number is small. Same is the same with the compact segment vehicles. In today’s market, despite the hike in diesel prices about only 20% of the sales are generated by petrol cars for Mercedes-Benz. The petrol numbers are likely to increase, however diesel will still be the dominant player.

2013 Honda Civic facelift revealed

Honda has announced the 2014 Civic and Civic Coupe will be priced from $18,190 and $18,390 in the United States.

Honda Civic Coupe

 Currently on sale, the updated models can be equipped with a new continuously variable transmission which promises to deliver "quicker and smoother acceleration." The CVT also enables the models to have an EPA fuel economy rating of 30 mpg city / 39 mpg highway / 33 mpg combined - an improvement of 2 mpg city and 1 mpg combined.

Honda Civic

The Civic Coupe has similar upgrades but is distinguished by a revised front bumper, a rear diffuser, a trunk-mounted spoiler and new 18-inch alloy wheels.

Detailed performance specifications were not released but the Si Coupe has a re-tuned exhaust that enables the i-VTEC 4-cylinder 2.4-liter engine to be slightly bumped from the current 201 bhp (150 kW) at 7,000 rpm and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) at 4,400 rpm. The car will probably use the same close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox and should feature a helical limited-slip differential.

On the styling front, the sedan is unchanged while the coupe receives modified bumpers, a revised grille and new front fenders. The model also has revised mirrors and updated head- and taillights.

The Civic also gains a new Honda Display Audio system with HondaLink technology. It features a 7-inch touchscreen display, Siri Eyes Free Integration and an all-new application-based HondaLink platform. The latter change enables the model to run four new apps that can provide everything from GPS navigation to local weather reports.
